What is Estradiol

Estradiol is a female estrogen hormone that is prescribed to treat menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness/itching, irregular periods, and mood swings. Besides, this medication prevents bone fractures (osteoporosis) and reduces the risk of heart attacks. Estradiol vaginal cream is indicated for vaginal atrophy associated with menopause. This medicine may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

The dosage of Estradiol prescribed to each patient will vary. Always follow your physician’s instructions and/or the directions on the prescription drug label. Estradiol may be taken with or without food.

If your physician has instructed or directed you to take Estradiol medication in a regular schedule and you have missed a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the doses unless otherwise directed.

The normal levels for estradiol are: 30 to 400 pg/mL for premenopausal women and 0 to 30 pg/mL for postmenopausal women.

Feminizing Hormone Therapy

The science behind Estradiol

Estradiol, the most potent form of estrogen, is a steroid hormone that acts as a powerful messenger within the body. Its primary action involves binding to specific receptors inside and on the surface of cells. When it binds to nuclear receptors (ERα and ERβ), it directly influences gene transcription, a slower process that controls the production of proteins responsible for long-term effects like bone growth and reproductive function. Additionally, it can bind to membrane receptors (GPER), triggering a cascade of rapid cell signaling for more immediate responses.

This dual mechanism allows estradiol to have a widespread impact on numerous bodily systems. Its effects are crucial for the menstrual cycle, bone and cardiovascular health, mood regulation, and cognitive function. By influencing cells throughout the body, estradiol plays a vital role in maintaining overall health and vitality for both men and women.

Frequently asked Questions

How do I know if estradiol is right for me?
Your menopause-trained doctor will review your symptoms and medical history and help determine the best treatment plan for you. Transdermal estradiol may be the best choice if you have high blood pressure, are sedentary, have Type-2 Diabetes or are at high risk for developing Type-2 Diabetes, have a strong family history of heart attack or stroke, have a family history of blood clotting disorders, are over 70, are starting MHT after age 60, or are starting MHT more than 10 years after your last period. The estradiol gel can safely be used alongside local hormonal treatments, like vaginal estradiol and M4. Please consult with your doctor about any other hormone treatments you are currently taking before starting treatment with Alloy.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT), also referred to as menopausal hormone therapy (MHT), is an estrogen- and/or progesterone-containing medication meant to replace hormones the body stops producing during perimenopause or the menopausal transition.

Your HormoneNexus physician will assess your individual situation and determine the proper protocol.

Progesterone is a naturally occurring steroid hormone that plays a crucial role in the menstrual cycle, fertility, and pregnancy. It works by preparing the uterus for a potential pregnancy and maintaining it if conception occurs. When prescribed as a medication, it is used to supplement low levels of the hormone for various medical conditions.
